Valentine's Day nail art does not always have to include hearts painted all over your nails. This decorative take on a moon manicure dresses up your nails with another Valentine's Day motif: the doily. This lacy design seems more complicated than it really is, but all you need is one romantic nail polish shade, a bottle of white lacquer, and a bobby pin.
First, paint your nails the base color. Use Chanel Le Vernis in Rose Exuberante ($27) for a vibrant pink that keeps the look from getting too dainty. After you've applied two coats, use the white polish to create a moon shape at the base of your nail. I used CoverGirl Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm ($6). You don't have to worry about making the perfect shape because the next step is to add the scalloped edges of the doily. Using the bobby pin, dab the ball tip into the white polish, and then create the white doily shape. Remove the white polish from the bobby pin with remover, dab the tip into the pink polish, and add the pink dots along the scalloped edges. The final look creates a pretty lace-like accent on your nails.
Here are the steps I took to create the design.
First, I applied 2 coats of Essie Blushing Bride. This is a sheer polish with a touch of pink. I do like this color and think that it makes a great base for a french mani.
Second, I sponged 2 coats of butter LONDON Rosie Lee. I love this pink glitter! It is so girly. It was actually the first "girly" polish that I ever purchased. I am in love with how this polish looks as a sponged tip. SO PRETTY!!!
Third, using a striping brush I applied the lines of OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry.
Fourth, I applied the white lines using Sinful Colors Nail Art Bad Chick. Sorry about the blurry pictures. I didn't realize they were this bad until I took them off the camera.
Fifth, I added the hearts using a dotting tool and OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry. This was my first time applying hearts this way.
I finished off by applying 2 coats of OTD.
I really like this design, however there are things that I would change. Actually only one thing, I had too much polish on the stripping brushes. I would have liked the lines to be thinner. Other than that this is one of my top designs! :)
I started with 2 coats of Julep Demi (red) and China Glaze Liquid Leather (black). I love the deep, rich red of Demi, however I think that it was too dark for this design because it was hard to see the black. Both polishes have flawless application.
Next I added the stamps using plates RA110 and BM 02 and 09. I used Liquid Leather for the hearts and love. The lips were added using Sinful Colors Nail Art Rose In Your Nose and Sunny Day.
I decided to go back and fill in the center heart and add dots around the hearts.

I then decided to add a little bling to my ring finger. I picked out, with a dotting too
